Account & Eligibility
How to Open a Binance Account and Get Verified
You need an email or phone you can check right away, a passport, ID card or driver's license, and good light for a face check. A referral code is linked during sign-up and can't be changed afterwards.
Have an email address or phone number you can open on the spot before you start. Binance sends a 6-digit code during registration, and you have 30 minutes to enter it. Put the Binance app on your phone too: Binance's current registration guide is written for the app.
Keep an identity document within reach. Most people can verify with a passport, ID card or driver's license, though the options depend on the country that issued it. Find a well-lit spot as well, because identity verification includes a face check, and you'll be asked to take off hats and glasses and avoid filters.
Decide on a password in advance. It must be at least 8 characters long and include at least one uppercase letter and one number. And if someone has sent you a referral link, register through that link rather than opening the app on its own.
Binance doesn't offer every service in every country or region, so check the Binance Terms of Use for where you live before you start.
Signing up in the Binance app, step by step
- Open the Binance app and tap [Sign up].
- Tap [Create a Binance Account].
- Choose how to register: email or phone number, Apple, Google or Telegram. The steps that follow are for email or phone.
- Enter your email address or phone number, read the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, tick the box to agree, and tap [Next].
- Find the 6-digit code in your inbox or text messages, enter it within 30 minutes, and tap [Submit].
- Create your password and tap [Next].
- Enter or confirm a referral code if you have one; otherwise skip this step.
- Continue to identity verification.
If you came in through a referral link, the code fills itself in at step 7, and you'll see a green tick with [Linked] next to it. If the code shows as invalid, you can edit it or type in a different one. Check the code before you move on, because once it's linked to your account it can't be changed.
You can create your Binance account with this link (this is our referral link, code BNB981; we may earn a commission if you register through it). Registering through that link fills in the code for you. If you start some other way, you can type BNB981 at the referral step instead.
What identity verification asks for
Identity verification, usually called KYC (short for "know your customer"), is where you show Binance an official document and your face so it can confirm the account belongs to a real, identifiable person. You can't skip it. Binance's personal verification guide says all new users must complete the [Verified] level to use its products and services.
On the website, the flow runs like this:
- Log in, hover over the profile icon, click [Account], go to [Identification], and click [Get Verified].
- Select your country of residence, the country or region that issued your document, and the document type.
- Upload the document from the device you're on, or scan the QR code to carry on with your phone. Whether manual upload is offered depends on your country.
- Upload the front and back of the document, then click [Continue].
- Click [Continue] again to start the liveness check, a short face scan. Take off any hat or glasses, switch off filters, make sure the room is bright, and don't refresh the browser while it runs.
- Confirm your personal information and click [Continue]. Every field has to match your document, and you can't change it once you confirm.
- Wait for the review. Documents are usually reviewed within 48 hours, though some cases take longer. Binance sends a notification once you're approved.
In the app, the entry point is [Verify Now] on the home screen, or the account center icon followed by [Unverified]. The sequence after that is the same, and you shouldn't refresh or quit the app until it's done.
Once verified, the account opens up for deposits and withdrawals, trading, and the fiat, spot and futures accounts, according to Binance's page on why verification is required.
Two security settings to turn on before you deposit
Two-factor authentication (2FA). Logging in or withdrawing asks for a second code from a device only you hold, on top of your password. A leaked password alone then isn't enough to get in, and Binance's registration guide strongly recommends turning on at least one 2FA method.
To set up Google Authenticator on the website (Binance's guide):
- Hover over the profile icon, select [Account], then go to [Security].
- Click [Manage] next to [Authenticator App], then [Enable Authenticator App]. A QR code and a setup key appear.
- In Google Authenticator on your phone, tap the plus button and choose [Scan a QR code], or [Enter a setup key] to type it in by hand.
- Only when the phone side is done, go back to your computer and click [Next].
- Enter the 6-digit code the app shows to finish.
Binance's own BAuthenticator app works the same way (BAuthenticator setup guide).
Anti-phishing code. This is a short code you choose, and Binance includes it in every genuine email and SMS it sends you. A message that claims to be from Binance but doesn't carry your code is one to ignore, along with any link inside it. On the website, go to your profile icon, then [Account], then [Security], find the anti-phishing code under advanced security, click [Enable], then [Create], enter your code and click [Submit], and confirm with 2FA (setup guide). The code must be 6 to 8 characters, use at least three of these four types: uppercase letters, lowercase letters, digits and underscores, and contain no special characters.
Where to go once you're verified
Your next job is getting money or crypto into the account. Card purchases, P2P and transfers from another platform each have their own requirements, so pick a funding route based on what you already have. If you plan to buy with a card and the payment gets declined, start with why a Binance card purchase fails, which works from the error message you're looking at.
Questions that come up after signing up
Can I add a referral code after I've already registered?
Only in a narrow case. Binance's Referral Pro mode FAQ describes a way to bind a code after registration, but it applies to Referral Pro codes only, and you can't tell from the outside which mode a given code belongs to. The safe move is to enter the code at sign-up. Even for a Pro code, binding later requires every one of these to be true:
- your KYC information hasn't been used on another account in the past 180 days
- the account has no existing referral relationship
- it's a parent account, not a sub-account
- you registered within the last 30 days
- there's no deposit or trading activity on the account
- the account isn't flagged as a wash trader
Once you've deposited or traded, or 30 days have passed, you can no longer add a code.
What if my details change after I'm verified?
Confirmed details can't be edited in place, but Binance has a separate process to update verified identity information for cases such as an expired document or a change of name, ID number or nationality. Once you declare an update to your KYC materials, your account is restricted to Withdrawal Only mode, so plan any trades before you submit. If your reason isn't in the drop-down list, Binance asks you to contact customer service.
Does the referral program apply wherever I live?
No. Binance's Referral Program additional notes set out regional exclusions. From July 1, 2026, users registered in EEA countries "will no longer be eligible to participate in the Binance Referral Program in any capacity, and will not be able to receive any referral commissions." UK retail users can't receive incentives to trade, and residents of Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong and Turkey face their own restrictions. Check that page for your country before relying on a code.
